Remove a solid 13.5lbs from the heaviest corner of the car for better weight distribution, and sharper handling. The MPFab lightweight batt. tray/ECM holder allows the end user to install a much smaller and lighter battery from a well known production vehicle, the Honda “Fit”. The smaller Honda battery weighs 13lbs less than the stock behemoth, and still provides more than ample power, and capacity for the Sonic platform. As a bonus, our billet batt. tray/ECM holder is .5lbs lighter than the obtrusive and ugly stock plastic battery tray, and adds a bit of billet goodness under the hood.
You may ask, “Why use a factory battery and not one of those much lighter racing batteries?” We did this for a couple of reasons. First off, you can purchase this battery at any parts house, and it will come with a 2-3yr free replacement warranty. Secondly, when purchasing said battery, you can use your factory battery as a “core” and receive $15-$20 back from the initial cost. So instead of you buying a battery from me, and have the factory one just hanging out in your garage, you can turn that 34lb hunk of acid and lead into cash! Lastly, by using a battery that is factory installed in a production automobile, you don’t have to worry about it being unreliable like a “race” battery can be. If you don’t drive the car for two weeks it’s OK. It’s still going to start right up.
The kit comes with our billet battery tray, laser cut ECM holder, laser cut hold down bracket, carbon fiber adorned hold down screw with knob for tightening, custom aluminum spacers, and stainless flush mount fasteners. All you need to do is provide the Group 151R battery from a Honda “Fit”, and your Sonic is on its way to leaner, rock hard abs… not really, but you get the point.
